KOLKATA: The Pakistan cricket team, led by Shahid Afridi, arrived at the Kolkata Airport on Saturday evening to participate in ICC World T20 2016 amid tight security.
The team travelled from Lahore to Abu Dhabi and rested there for some time before boarding an Etihad flight to arrive here.
Placed in Group 2 along with India, New Zealand and Australia, Pakistan will open their WT20 campaign against the Group A qualifier on March 16 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
The team confirmed its participation for the event after being assured of security by the Indian government and after their demand for shifting the India contest from Dharamsala was approved by the ICC.
They are scheduled to play India in a mouthwatering clash on March 19 at the Eden Gardens.
