World Food Day being observed worldwide today

Faisalabad: The “World Food Day” is being observed around the globe today. The day was announced by the World Food and Agriculture Organization in 1979 to aware the people about hunger and malnutrition. October 16th has been celebrated as the World Food Day since then.
This year’s title is “To Empower people against Hunger and Malnutrition”.
Many events will be held around the globe to make the people aware of the challenges regarding hunger and malnutrition.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad said while heading a food awareness event at UAF, “Approximately 23% of Pakistanis are suffering from malnutrition and food insecurities despite having plenty of food grains available in the storage.”
University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) held an awareness walk to celebrate World Food Day arranged by the varsity’s Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences Faculty at Iqbal Auditorium on Saturday.
He said, “Malnutrition affects women and children the most,” suggesting that feeding programmes at schools should be arraged to educate youngsters about having at least one balanced and nutritious meal a day.
The issue can be addressed by long-term initiatives, including food security, child protection and early childhood development programs.
