WASHINGTON – The US voice support for Pakistan’s outlook regarding the Pathankot terrorist attack in India and lauded the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in war against terrorism.
“Pakistan itself has condemned Pathankot air base attack and made clear that they are committed to investigate it. US, obviously, would like to see it investigated too as completely and as thoroughly as possible,” US State Department spokesman John Kirby said – during a media briefing.
The US said that Pakistan knew well the threat of terrorism,adding that Islamabad has vowed that they are not going to discriminate between terrorist groups as part of its counterterrorism operations. Kirby said that terrorism was a regional challenge that requires real regional solutions, and the US wants Pakistan to be a part of those solutions.
He said that the Obama Administration is in touch with Pakistani authorities since the Pathankot attack.
Pakistan was quick to condemn the terrorist attack on the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot on Saturday. “We extend heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India and the bereaved families and wish the wounded speedy and full recovery,” Foreign Office spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said, in a statement.
Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Tuesday phoned his Pakistani counterpart Lt-General (r) Nasir Janjua to discuss situation after attack on Indian airbase in Pathankot.
According to a statement Ajit Doval – in conversation with Nasir Janjua – welcomed the statement of Pakistani Foreign Office in which Islamabad condemned the terrorist attack on Pathankot airbase. He termed it a positive development in Pakistan-India relationship.
