Although I’m a medical student and I don’t have the luxury of sitting around and watching television but whenever I get some free time I find a TV series and I binge-watch and make it my latest addiction. Recently, I began watching “Supergirl” on Netflix and it already has me hooked. This tv series has a good deal of life lessons that no philosopher can enlighten you upon.
Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El an alien girl who was sent on earth to protect her cousin. But her pod got knocked off-course and by the time she got on earth her cousin had already grown up and become Superman. She, with the help of her friends, uses her superpowers to fight aliens and protect the innocent people and this planet. “Supergirl” takes its audience on an adventure filled with incredible joy, thrill, twists and wonderful life lessons. Here are few of the lessons she taught us:
- Love bonds us all:
Kara had to leave her family and everyone she loved behind on Krypton to protect her cousin. She, however, found a new home and a new family on earth; a loving mother, a caring father and a protective elder sister. Supergirl spends most of her time on earth protecting the people of this planet to fulfill the promise she made to her mother. Her commitment is admirable and it shows us that we can rely on our friends and family because love bonds us all.
Supergirl believes in the importance of friends and family. She saves people but with the help of her friends and her family. She has faith in her friends and family and they’re her support system.
Throughout the series, we’ve seen Kara fighting people stronger than her. There came a time when she came into contact with human made red-kryptonite which altered her brain somehow and made her a villain for a day. People started fearing her and it destroyed her image. There was a point she felt like quitting but her friends and sister helped her come back stronger. Supergirl taught us to believe in ourselves and never lose hope.
- Making a difference:
Kara has super strength. She has super hearing and super sighting skills, she can even fly. Even when she’s wronged by people around her, she never abuses her powers. She believes in making the right choice and she uses her powers for good and never takes advantage of it.
- Be yourself:
For a very long time Kara had to hide her identity until one day she was left with no other choice but to reveal herself in order to save her sister’s life. That was the day when the world knew about supergirl. Kara only became supergirl after embracing her true self. That’s what we all need to do to become successful in our lives. We must not pretend to be someone we’re not just to fit in and be accepted. Because the people who truly matter will always accept us for who we are.
