Sindh Assembly passes Hindu Marriage bill

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly led-by Pakistan People Party (PPP) on Monday passed the Hindu Marriage Bill 2015.

The bill was tabled  by Sindh Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro. During the debate on the bill,  Nisar Khuhro said, “Since the creation of Pakistan, it is the first time that such a law is being passed. The decision has been taken to provide mechanism for formally registering Hindu marriages in Sindh.”

Parliamentary panel who was chaired by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk already cleared the Hindu Marriage Bill.

“It’ll be a model law for Hindus which will, of course, pave the way for registration of their marriages and address all chronic issues of Hindu community,” said by  Secretary Law and Justice and Human Rights Justice (retd) Raza Khan.

Under the bill, for a marriage three conditions will be necessary

1) Consent of both parties who are willing to marry

2) Minimum age limit under the act is 18.

3) Presence of at least 2 witnesses are mandatory at the time marriage and registration.
