SHC orders to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from ECL

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) today ordered to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from Exit Control List (ECL).

The model had filed a contempt of court plea in SHC over re-inclusion of her name in ECL.

The plea stated that the government had been subject to contempt of court after contradicting the orders of SHC and Supreme Court.

The petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the relevant authorities and permit Ayyan to travel abroad while evicting her name from ECL.

The government in response to the plea adopted stance that Ayyan’s name was removed from ECL in accordance with the orders of court but was re-included over being a defaulter.

The court had reserved its decision on the previous hearing.

After reviewing the arguments from both the parties, the court permitted Ayaan to travel abroad and directed the authorities to remove her name from ECL. The court has also given the government time of seven-day for challenging the verdict of SHC.

Ayyan was apprehended by Airport Security Force (ASF) at Benazir International Airport in March 2015 with wads of cash worth USD 506,800. She was to board a private airline’s flight to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
