LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the news about threatening SMSs to Pakistan Muslim League-N MPA Maiza Hameed and Uzma Bukhari and sought a report from Punjab Police IG.The chief minister ordered action should be taken after an inquiry into the matter and proper security should be provided to both the leaders. The chief minister also took notice of murder of eight persons due to a land dispute in Mian Channu and sought a report from the IG. He ordered immediate arrest of the culprits and legal action against them. The chief minister directed that justice should be provided to the aggrieved parties.
Separately, Shahbaz Sharif said that derailment of stable democratic system on October 12, 1999 was a heinous conspiracy against progress and prosperity of the country and Pakistani nation is still facing its consequences. However, he said, elected representatives are now engaged in public service while those who hatched conspiracy against democratic set up stand rejected. In a message for October 12, the date in 1999, when former army chief Pervez Musharraf toppled the government of PML-N and imposed martial law, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid rich tributes to the political forces which stood against the long dictatorial rule, especially head of PML-N Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, party leaders, office-bearers and workers and said that October 12, 1999 was a black day in the history of the country as on this day a dictator toppled the democratically elected government. He said that military regimes have caused a loss to the country and had democratic system not be sabotaged there would not have been serious problems like terrorism, load-shedding, price-hike and unemployment. He said that it is also a fact that opportunist elements under the patronage of former dictator indulged in massive corruption and plunder. He said that PML-N leadership has the honour of playing an effective role for strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions in the country. The Chief Minister said that solution to all problems of the country lies in continuity and stability of such a democratic system which is free from corruption, nepotism and loot.He said that had the development projects started in communication, health, education and other sectors during the last tenure of Nawaz Sharif not been stopped during the era of Pervaiz Musharraf, Pakistan would have joined the rank of developed countries.
The chief minister said that on this day, people of Pakistan pay tributes to those who bravely faced state oppression during Musharraf dictatorship and rendered sacrifices for democratic system. He said that today the nation should resolve that democratic principles will be upheld and all energies will be utilized for transforming Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid and Iqbal.Also, Shahbaz Sharif Sunday said those interrupting the process of prosperity of farmers, labourers and common man were not sincere to the masses.
Talking to various delegations here, he said opposing to public welfare projects was in fact opposing the progress of the poor and downtrodden. The elements involved in the negative politics of sit-ins and destructions were not interested in the development of the country and welfare of citizens, he added. He said major decisions had been taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for strengthening the economy and coping with the challenges being faced by the country and their implementation was yielding positive results.
Due to effective policies, he said, the economy was stabilizing and economic indicators were improving. Poverty, unemployment and load-shedding would be eliminated which would usher in a revolution of national progress and prosperity, he added. Shahbaz said that service to the masses and improvement in the living standard of deprived segments of the society were the pivot of politics of Pakistan Muslim League-N. Billions of rupees saved from projects were being spent on changing the socio-economic condition of the common man, he added. The Chief Minister said the government was working round the clock for resolving the energy crisis.
Power projects were being completed expeditiously and for the first time in the country’s history, coal-based energy projects were being set up. The Bhikki power plant would be a trendsetter and pave the way for gas-based energy projects, he added. The delegations paid tribute to Shahbaz Sharif on speedy completion of the development projects and saving of billions of rupees.
