ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday allowed five mobile phone SIMs and three Internet SIMs on a single national identity card (CNIC). A private mobile phone company submitted a plea, requesting permission for Internet SIMs on CNIC. During the hearing, the organisation’s counsel argued that it has purchased 4G licence for $56 crore, but the users are restricted to having only five SIMs on one CNIC. He said the authorities should take steps to promote 4G technology in the country by letting the masses have three more Internet SIMs on one identity card. Subsequently, the court accepted the plea and stated that the mobile phone companies can contact Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the number of SIMs.
