KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader Farooq Sattar on Thursday said that ongoing operation in Karachi against criminal elements was being used to ‘eliminate’ his party.
Addressing a press conference here, the MQM leader said that a conspiracy was being hatched to sideline the MQM from political arena and to replace it with some other political party by using the targeted operation.
He said that the Rangers arrested a member of the MQM’s Coordination Committee Kamal Malik by raiding his house located in North Nazimabad area last night. He added that the paramilitary force stayed in Malik’s residence for one and a half hour during the raid.
Sattar said that serious actions should be taken against other parties in Pakistan over corruption. He said that Malik was the fourth Coordination Committee member who has been arrested, adding that no central figure of any other political party was arrested in ongoing Karachi operation.
The MQM leader said that the MQM was concerned about Malik’s life and his medical condition. He added that the arrested leader underwent an operation of liver transplant two years ago. He said that the purpose of arrests was not to control crime in the city but to weaken the MQM.
