Samsung Galaxy J7 vs. Sony Xperia Z3 – Best Smartphone Comparison

Samsung Galaxy J7 has been released in June 2015, while the Sony Xperia Z3 has reached the stores a year earlier, in September 2014. The first one is a phablet with a newer 64bit processor, while the latter is a mid-tier phone with a decent 32bit processor. More about these two devices you’ll find out below. The Galaxy J7 measures 152.2×78.7×7.5mm and weights 171 grams. For this model, Samsung has used the classic plastic shell and it made it available in three variants of colors: white, black and golden. On the other hand, the Xperia Z3 is thicker and lighter as it measures 146x72x7.3mm and weights 152 grams. The phone has a glass back and the edge is made of a translucent plastic material, but the inside is protected against dust and water (IP68 certification).


The Galaxy J7 has a super AMOLED display of 5.5-inch that supports a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at 267 ppi. The Xperia Z3 has a smaller IPS LCD display of 5.2-inch that supports a higher resolution of 1920×1080 pixels at 424 ppi.

The Galaxy J7 comes in two variants as follows:

– Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 or Exynos 7580 Octa;

The Xperia Z3 has a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset, a quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, an Adreno 330 graphics card and 3GB of RAM.

In conclusion, both devices are mid-range, but they’re using weaker processors that have been launched in the year of their arrival to the market.


The Galaxy J7 has been released with an internal storage of 16GB, while the Xperia Z3 is available in two variants of 16GB and 32GB. Both devices feature a microSD slot which supports cards with a maximum capacity of 128GB.


The Galaxy J7 sports a primary camera of 13MP (located on the rear side) with LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, panorama, face detection, touch focus and a secondary camera of 5MP (found on the front side). On the other hand, the Xperia Z3 sports a primary camera of 20.7MP that offers autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, panorama, touch focus and the secondary camera is 2.2MP.


The Galaxy J7 features a removable battery of 3000 mAh, while the Xperia Z3 has a non-removable cell of 3100 mAh.
