Punjab govt focusing on providing skill training to youth: Raja Ashfaq Sarwar

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Labour & HR Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that Punjab government is all set to achieve six-month based milestone to provide skill training to the youth of the province under first phase of Punjab Growth Strategy 2018.

He was presiding over a high level steering committee meeting, here today. Minister for Finance Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Minister for Zakat & Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran, Chairman P&D Jehanzeb Khan, ex-Chairman Irfan Elahi, Chairman TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Secretary Labour Ali Sarfraz, Secretary Industries Naseem Sadiq and other high officials of concerned departments attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that in accordance with the directions of Punjab to equip the youth with skill training and enhance opportunities of job, all the departments have formed their training programmes. Punjab Health Department will provide skill training to 15 thousand Lady Health Workers and seven thousand Health Professionals till March 2016.

Accordingly, Punjab Schools Education Department and Punjab Vocational Training Council(PVTC) will arrange IT skills training to seven thousand people using public schools computer laboratories. Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development Department will train 30 thousand villagers in vaccination and animals insemination. The meeting was informed that TEVTA and PVTC will sign an execute 20 MoUs with local employers to provide job opportunities to skill graduates and three MoUs will be signed with the foreign employers in GCC countries for export of skilled labour by Punjab Export Cell of TEVTA.

According to this short term plan, Project Implementation Unit(PIU), TEVTA, PVTC and Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) will execute pilot performance based funding in at least ten public institutions till September next. PIU will also develop and implement an independent monitoring system so as to monitor all the developments being made by the concerned departments in training purposes.
