President urges poets to write against corruption

ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday called upon the country’s poets and intellectuals to use their poems, writings and ideas against the menace of corruption and corrupt practices.
“You have many ideas, and you should write poems against corruption and discourage such elements in the society,” he said in his brief remarks at the conclusion of a `Mushaira’ held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in connection with the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Besides the renowned poets from across the country, Federal Ministers, Members of Parliament and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
The President thanked the poets for attending the event on his invitation and said a number of functions were being held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr as part of Quaid’s week.
The President hoped that Aiwan-e-Sadr will continue to host such national events in future as well.
Earlier renowned poets including Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi,Amjad Islam Amjad, Altaf Hassan Qureshi, Anwar Masood and others recited their poetry, that highlighted the leadership qualities of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
