PPP won’t challenge Rangers’ authority

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided not to go to the court on the issue of Rangers’ authorities in Karachi, Neo Tv reported. “The decision was taken after a meeting between PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, PPP leader and advocate Farooq H. Naik,” media reported. According to PPP sources both individuals discussed the issue in detail and decided to not to challenge Federal Government’s notification.

Federal and Sindh governments are at loggerhead on the issue of Rangers’ authority and Karachi Operation in the recent past. Sindh government was hesitating in extending the Rangers’ powers in Karachi mainly because of PPP leader Dr. Asim case. Meanwhile, the federal government wanted to continue the operation.
The PPP-led Sindh government had passed a bill regarding the issue in which the Rangers’ powers were limited and it was severely criticized by media and rejected by the Central government. Federal government has issued a notification and reimbursed Rangers’ authority in the ongoing Karachi Operation.
