Polling underway for second phase of LG elections in Sindh, Punjab

KARACHI/LAHORE: Polling for the second phase of local government (LG) polls across Sindh and Punjab commenced Thursday morning. Polling began at 7:30am and is expected to continue till 5:30pm, Radio Pakistan reported.

Polling is being held in 11 districts in Punjab and 14 districts in Sindh and voters have begun arriving at polling stations to cast votes for their preferred candidates.Strict security arrangements have been made for the elections in both Punjab and Sindh.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set up a control room in Islamabad to handle voters’ complaints. Complaints may be lodged on the telephone numbers 051-9210816, 051-9210817 and 051-9210818.

A voter can be verified from the website of the election commission. People including the women voters have started to arrive at the polling stations to cast their vote.

Chairman, Vice Chairman and General councilors will be elected in 133 rural union councils of the district and 114 wards of municipal committees of Khanewal, Mian Channu, Kabirwala,Jehanian, Tulamba and Abdul Hakim.

Election Commission has postponed elections in two union councils of the district.

1070 polling stations have been made in the district. 55 polling stations have been declared sensitive where extra security personnel will be deployed. Registered voters of the district are over 14 lac 34 thousand.

Radio Pakistan Sargodha correspondent says 1478 polling stations have been set up in the district out of them 50 polling stations has been declared more sensitive.

Registered voters of the district are over 19 lac 71 thousand.
