PM announces relief for earthquake victims

PESHAWAR - PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced Rs 600,000 compensation for heirs of each earthquake victim across Pakistan.

Upon arrival, the prime minister was received by Khyber Pakthunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Khyber Pakthunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak at the airport. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervez Rashid also accompanied the prime minister.

Prime Minister also visit Chitral to meet the quake-affected people.

Chitral has also been badly affected by the quake with several buildings damaged and casualties soaring. Rescue and relief activities are underway in the mountainous region. Teams of Pakistan Army have also been carrying out rescue activities in the affected areas.At least 270 people have died after quake in the country.

“Rs 200,000 will be given to the families with total damaged houses while Rs100, 000 will be granted to houses with partial damaged,” he announced. “Both federal and provincial governments will pay 50% share each,” Prime Minister added

The prime minister further said that Rs 100,000 will be given for reconstruction of partially damaged house.

The prime minister thanked all the institutions including National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Army, NGOs and KP provincial authorities. “Thank You Raheel Sharif for the rapid response by the army,” he specifically mentioned.
