Party’s future in Punjab relies on PTI march

LAHORE – It is difficult to predict what the PTI will achieve through its decisive episode of Ehtesab March on September 30. But what can be said with a certain degree of confidence is that the show’s success or failure will have serious repercussions for the political future of Imran Khan’s party in Punjab.

Provincial capital being the power seat of the province, symbolises the grip on the ‘throne’ of Punjab. Whosoever has ‘political mastery’ over Lahore holds the symbolic value of authority on the largest province.

Mr Khan, who is trying hard to hold sway over his arch rival PML-N in Punjab since Azadi March, will make another effort in this direction on September 30 under Ehtesab March campaign.

Keeping in mind the declining performance of the party in Punjab because of non-existence of party’s elected organization and serious infighting among party ranks, Imran himself had to jump to the field to lead a series of small rehearsal rallies in the City yesterday to attract mass participation for Raiwind show.

Imran made marathon visits to 10 major public mobilisation camps of the party set up by party ticket-holders at major points of 13 National Assembly constituencies in the City. PTI chairman visited the 10 camps set up at Sabzi Mandi, Bhati Gate, Nasir Bagh, Babu Sabu, Ichra, Liberty Chowk, Ghaas Mandi-GT Road, Mughalpura, Ghazi Chowk and Wapda Town.

The presence of PTI chairman somewhat made the rehearsal rallies for Raiwind show enthusiastic and he received good response during his visit to the camps.

Flag-waving and slogan chanting charged workers of the party received Mr Khan when he arrived at different party camps.

Party activists were chanting slogans: “Follow Imran Khan to Raiwind. We will not let the corrupt and plunderers to evade justice.” Imran’s followers also raised slogans of “Go Nawaz Go”.

Imran, addressing the party gatherings at these camps, appealed to the women and youth to participate in Raiwind moot in large numbers saying the two symbolise the strength of his party.

He asked his party activists especially the youth to make September 30 a historic show, bigger than October 30, 2011 which converted the PTI into a real political entity of the populace.

PTI chairman also invited the protesting farmer community to Raiwind to take part in Ehtesaab show saying he would raise voice for their issues from a larger platform.

“The ruling party has made worst kind of brutality on the farmers who are protesting for their just rights,” claimed Mr Khan.

He said that the ruling family had to tell the truth to the masses about the disclosures made in the Panama Papers. “PTI will not let the ruling family to run away from the accountability following Panama leaks.”

“All the justice providing institutions are under constant fear and the PTI wants to free them for provision of justice and transparent accountability,” said Khan.

PTI activists did not fear any baton force of the ruling party and government would be responsible for any untoward incident on September 30. PTI leaders would lay siege to the police stations where party activists held to stop them from taking part in Raiwind moot, warned the PTI chief to the ruling party.

In a meeting at party leader Ijaz Chaudhry’s residence, Imran discussed the impacts and after affects of Raiwind march with senior party leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jahangir Tareen, Chaudhry Sarwar, Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, Mehmoodur Rasheed and Aleem Khan.

Mr Khan was briefed by the party leaders about the participation of activists from Khyber-PK, Sindh, Balochistan and above all Punjab.

The meeting also discussed the issue of mobilization from northern, southern and western and central regions of Punjab as mobilization from the province matters most because the show has to take place in Lahore.

Party chairman directed the party leaders to accelerate their efforts to the maximum to make Raiwind show successful to challenge the claim of ruling party on Punjab.
