Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan could play a role of mediator between Saudi Arabia and Iran to defuse the rising tensions between Gulf nations.
While addressing the media, he further said, “Time for mediation has not passed yet. We will keep mind apprehensions of both the countries. We will play our role when the time is right,” he claimed. “We are observing the issue carefully and it is hoped hostility between both states will come to an end very soon,” he added.
“As of now, the issue seems sectarian in nature and we will protect our interests to make sure the row does not evolve into a sectarian conflict in our own country,” Aziz said.
Aziz further said Pakistan does not want any sectarian divide because terrorist elements can take advantage of this situation.
While talking about Pathankot attack, Aziz said Pakistan is investigating the incident. “The meeting between Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India will be held according to schedule,” he stated.
