Harry Styles seems to slam ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift in One Direction’s new single. The British boy band is set to drop its new track, “Perfect”, tomorrow (Oct 16).
The single includes lyrics that appear to bash Swift and claim that Harry was just “someone to write break-up songs about.”
The newspaper quoted a source saying: “Harry would never get too specific about Taylor in a song, but the lyrics are definitely going to get fans speculating … He doesn’t want to dish the dirt but a relationship as intense as theirs has provided lots of inspiration.”
Some of the lyrics in “Perfect” appear to be in response to Taylor’s fondness of discussing her former relationships in her music. The 25-year-old pop singer is known for channeling her heartbreak into lyrics and most of her hits singles refer to her former lovers, including Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer.
Taylor and Harry had a three-month romance in 2012.
According to Metro, some of the lyrics in “Perfect” goes like this:
“If you like when I’m driving with the windows down/If you like going places we can’t even pronounce/If you like to do whatever you’ve been dreaming about/Baby you’re perfect.”
This seems to be in response to “I Wish You Would” from Taylor’s 1989 album. The song has the lyrics:
“It’s 2 AM in your car/Windows down, you pass my street, the memories start/You say it’s in the past, you drive straight ahead/You’re thinking that I hate you now/’Cause you still don’t know what I never said.”
Metro also noted that it is widely believed that Swift’s songs “Style,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Out Of The Woods,” and “I Wish You Would” were all about her short-lived relationship with the 1D band member.
Styles wrote “Perfect” alongside bandmate Louis Tomlinson.
