RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Sunday told Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman that any threat to kingdom’s territorial integrity will evoke a strong response from Pakistan, according to a statement issued by the ISPR.
The deputy crown prince called on the COAS at the General Headquarters Sunday afternoon. Matters related to regional security and defence cooperation came under discussion during the meeting.
The COAS said Pakistan enjoyed close and brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and attaches great importance to their security. He said Pakistan holds its defence ties with Saudi Arabia in highest esteem and reaffirmed that any threat to Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity would evoke a strong response from Pakistan.
Saudi Defence Minister said Riyadh attaches great importance to Islamabad and its armed forces and appreciated their successes in the fight against terrorism as well as efforts for regional peace and stability. The defence minister reaffirmed kingdom’s full support to Pakistan on all matters.
Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, who is also the deputy prime minister and minister for defence, arrived here on Sunday for a day-long trip to seek Pakistan’s support as the kingdom mulls additional steps against Iran.
This is the second high-profile visitor from Riyadh in three days.
