The Twitter page for Nintendo of Europe may have just teased a Mario Kart 8 DLC, though the teaser is simply a picture of Wario and Toad getting smacked around and captioned “Good things come to those who wait.”
This will be the first Mario Kart 8 DLC that will be coming out since the 200 CC update that drastically increased the speed on races if the 200 CC option is chosen.
The other two DLCs, which you have to pay for, were various packs that added other characters from other Nintendo properties to the game. The packs added Link, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach in the Legend of Zelda pack, and Isabelle, Dry Bowser, and both genders of Villager in the Animal Crossing pack.
Both packs also included a number of new tracks and karts, which were everything from motorcycles to a car that looked like it had come straight out of Speed Racer.
Whether this upcoming Mario Kart 8 DLC will be free, like the 200 CC update, or one that costs $7.99 like the first two DLCs, is yet to be announced. We also don’t know when it will be announced. It most likely isn’t going to be announced at E3, considering that the only things Nintendo will have there will be the Legend of Zelda demos.
The Mario Kart 8 DLC would likely have a better chance of showing up on an upcoming Nintendo Direct, where Nintendo will be able to talk more about the upcoming games that will soon be arriving on the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS, and possibly they will finally announce the Nintendo NX.
Mario Kart 8 was one of Nintendo’s best sellers back in 2014, and contributed to a large amount of Wii U sales along with the latest Super Smash Bros.
Either way, hopefully Nintendo will announce what the Mario Kart 8 DLC will be at some point soon, so the racers among us can start looking over our shoulders for blue shells.
