Musharraf acquitted in Akbar Bugti murder case

Former military dictator Pervez Musharraf has been acquitted by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta over Akbar Bugti murder case. The brief decision came this morning amid protests of Bugti’s son.

Aftab Sherpao, Qaumi Watan party chief and Shoaib Nausherwani, federal home minister and provincial home minister respectively at the time have been acquitted as well.

Bugti led an armed campaign demanding provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources.

His murder sparked nationwide protests and inflamed an armed insurgency that rose up in 2004. Pervaiz Musharraf also issued aggressive statements against the reputed leader of Baluchistan who always had been an important tenant of Pakistani politics. Aftab Sher Pao, provincial minister and Shoaib Nesharwani, Provincial minister were also involved in the case.
