Microsoft finally rolling out Windows 10 Mobile upgrade

Microsoft has finally started rolling out Windows 10 Mobile update for a handful of smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1.

To get the update, users will have to download Microsoft’s Upgrade Advisor app from the Windows Store. Once the app is downloaded, select on the ‘Enable Windows 10 upgrade’ option and then tap on ‘Next’. The app will then check if your device is eligible for an upgrade or whether an update is required before the update is installed. With the app, users can essentially find out wether their old Lumia device is eligible for an upgrade to the latest Windows 10.

“Today, we’re pleased to begin the roll-out of Windows 10 Mobile to select Windows Phone 8.1 devices. There are a lot of great new features in Windows 10 Mobile, like Continuum, Windows Hello and Cortana. Consistent with our approach to the Windows 10 PC upgrade, we are focused on delivering a high quality experience for our customers,” said Microsoft in a blog post.

The company has also announced that availability of the upgrade may vary depending upon the manufacturer, device models, region, service operators and more. In addition, Microsoft has also noted that the list of devices scheduled for the upgrade will not include certain phones that are currently a part of the Windows Insider program.
