Following the hype after the release of Noori’s new song ‘Aik Tha Badshah’, the band’s die-hard fans will be happy to learn the upcoming album, Begum Gul Bakaoli Sarfarosh, will finally be released on October 9.
The album was supposed to be out in September, but was delayed by a month. Updates on Noori’s Facebook page have however assured us that there won’t be another delay.
Returning after a hiatus of a decade, fans have high expectations from Noori whose numbers like ‘Manwa Re’, ‘Tum Hans Diye’, ‘Kuttay Te tho Uttay’ and ‘Nishaan’ can still be found on many a local playlist. Their latest song ‘Aik Tha Badshah’ which was released at an unplugged event in June reminded fans of the good old Noori days even when it had infusion of electronica and the chorus did transport many to the signature Noori style.
The video of the new song also managed to successfully grab attention, depicting Hamza with a crown on his head, speaking to multiple characters delivering different messages. The dark video, open to multiple interpretations, was put together by none other than Ali Noor’s better half, Mandana.
The band had also outlined the theme of the new album – Pakistan past and present – when they performed an unreleased song ‘1947’.
“I want to share a story with you about why we think Pakistan has become the way it has become…that is basically the whole theme of our album,” Ali Noor said.
“It’s an insight and basically a question about what shall we do next to go forward in this country… hum he is ko kuch kar saktay hain. It’s time to go beyond our fake patriotism; it’s time to go beyond our sort of unrealistic optimism and at the same time our extremely easy pessimism which we have to let go of. So it’s time to find that middle ground. So this album is about a woman who actually crosses the border in 1947 and spends the rest of her life in Pakistan trying to understand what goes on over here and why it has become the way it is, so basically we are trying to share that story with you.”
Noori’s previous two albums Suno K Main Hon Jawaan and Peeli Patti Aur Raja Jani Ki Gol Dunya did well on the charts and became the reason for the band’s long-standing success.
