LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that livestock sector has a key role in the strengthening of economy.
He said that a major segment of rural population is associated with livestock sector and development of this sector on permanent basis would not only strengthen rural economy but also create job opportunities. He said there was a need for hard work for achieving the targets in livestock sector. He said that steps should be taken expeditiously for increasing the share of Punjab in livestock trade at international level.
According to a handout issued here Friday, the chief minister expressed these views while addressing a meeting here Friday which reviewed measures and recommendations for formulating policy framework for the development of livestock sector in the province.
The chief minister also approved risk allowance for field staff of Livestock Department and recruitment against the approved vacancies of technical staff. Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that there was a lot of potential in livestock sector in the province. He said that the Punjab government had taken effective measures for development of livestock sector; however, there was a need for institutional mechanism and capacity-building of the staff for fully benefiting from existing potential in livestock sector. He said that effective measures should be taken for this purpose.
He appreciated the programme started by Livestock Department for protection of livestock from diseases and said that free vaccination of livestock would be continued. He said that the Punjab government would provide maximum funds for this purpose. He lauded the performance of Livestock Department regarding implementation of vaccination programme and appreciated secretary livestock and his team. He said that final recommendations should be evolved with the consultation of the core group comprising livestock experts for evolving future strategy. He said that steps should be taken in advance for protecting livestock of Cholistan from diseases.
Meanwhile, Assembly members belonging to various districts called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that provision of quality health and educational facilities was top priority of the government. He said that reforms agenda was being implemented speedily for improving health and education sectors. He said the Punjab government was implementing a balanced policy for the development of urban and rural areas.
Shahbaz Sharif, according to a handout, said that more resources than the proportion of the population had been allocated for the development and prosperity of South Punjab whereas more quota for South Punjab had also been allocated in various projects. He said the Punjab government was taking every step towards prosperity of the people for enhancing their living standard. He said that the journey of selfless service to the people during the last two and a half years would be continued vigorously. He said that record budget had been allocated for the provision of best treatment facilities and uplift of health sector. He stressed upon elected representatives to spare no effort in resolving problems of the people.
Swine flu: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued instructions to the authorities concerned to take all necessary measures for protection of people from Swine Flu. He said that besides protective measures, a vigorous awareness campaign should also be launched and easy availability of required medicines should also be ensured.
