NEW DELHI:Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided his office and launched a no-holds barred attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was resorting to ‘cowardice.’According to Indian newspaper Times of India, the Delhi chief minister – who is involved in a prolonged tussle with the Indian central government, accused the India’s Prime Minster Narendra Modi of resorting to vendetta politics and came down heavily on the CBI for the raids at his office – Players Building.“CBI raids my office,” Kejriwal tweeted. “When Modi couldn’t handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice. Modi is a coward and psychopath,” Kejriwal said in a series of tweets expressing his anguish over the raids.A CBI spokesperson said that the searches were being conducted at the office of the Rajendra Kumar – Kejriwal’s principal secretary – and that details would be shared later. Sources said that a team of CBI officials went to the Delhi Secretariat, which houses the office of Kejriwal and other ministers, and conducted the search in the third floor of the building. They said the search may be in connection with the multi-crore CNG fitness scam.
Sources said that there were allegations that Kejriwal’s principal secretary was linked to the scam, but the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) senior officer as well as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had rejected the charges.“Let Modi say which file he wants?” Kejrival asked in tweets. “My department’s files are being looked into using Rajinder as an excuse,” he tweeted.“I am the only CM who dismissed, on my own, a minister and senior officer on charges of corruption and handed their cases to CBI,” he wrote on the micro blogging site, a reference to the dramatic dismissal of environment and food and supplies minister Asim Ahmed Khan in September for allegedly demanding Rs6 lac from a builder to allow illegal construction.Senior leaders of the party attacked the government over the raids, calling the incident shameful and a new low in politics.“Modi is trying to stop honest politics by using CBI raids as a scare. But he won’t succeed as the public is with the truth,” senior leader and deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted. He said that the central government was controlling the CBI and claimed the raid at Rajendra Kumar’s office was aimed at sending message to officials “if they worked with Kejriwal honestly, they will be troubled.”“If Modi wants to send a message amongst officials who are working that if you work along with Kejriwal honestly, then they will be targeted, then it is a very dangerous message. This will have opposite effect,” he warned.
Another AAP leader Ashutosh said that the CBI was “lying to the teeth” for saying that the office of the chief minister was raided and attacked Modi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned Kejriwal for the kind of language used to criticise the prime minister and said it was absolutely unacceptable. “Does he want to protect the corrupt?” Javedekar – a BJP lawmaker – asked, adding that instead of taking action against the corrupt, he was accusing the prime minister. This was absolutely unacceptable.
