Imran urges students to help in development of country

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday renewed his pledge to make Khyber Pakhtunkhwa greener and urged the students to play an active role in development of the country and serving the humanity.

He was addressing a function in connection with the centenary celebrations of the historic Islamia College, Peshawar. The function was also addressed by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, advisor to chief minister on higher education Mushtaq Ghani and Vice-Chancellor Ajmal Khan.

The year-long centenary celebrations concluded with firework in the college latter in the evening. Upon the successful arrangements of the celebrations, the university administration announced a day-off for today (Monday).

Imran Khan said that those who learn from mistakes excel in life. He avoided talking about his recent visit to India and the political situation in the country. He rather gave pieces of advice to the students.

The PTI chief said they would make the province more prosperous and green. He said that they were not making investments in metros and have instead focused attention on human resource development.

He said that the provincial government would achieve the target of planting one billion trees. He asked the students to volunteer their services in helping the government for making the tree plantation drive a success.

The PTI chief also announced to inaugurate the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Peshawar on December 29. He was of the opinion that there was abundance of wealthy people. But they don’t spend money on humanity.

Those who spend money on humanity, earn good name and fame in the society. He referred to the charity work of Bill Gates, saying that he spent a share of his wealth on humanity and earned great fame across the globe.

Imran Khan urged the students to set goals for themselves and strive hard to achieve those goals. “One should not lose heart if he faces hardships in the struggle for achievement of his goals and continue hard work,” he maintained.

The PTI chairman claimed to have made the province corruption free. “After ridding the province of corruption, we have focused our attention on promotion of education and health delivery system,” he remarked.

He said that they were facing some problems in introducing reforms in the health system. The doctors were creating hurdles for them and they have got a stay order from the court. But he vowed to implement ‘reforms’ in the health sector.

The PTI chief directed the administration of the Islamia College to utilise all the energies and resources on the students and produce the best graduates.

He stressed the need for proper utilisation of the earning from the endowment fund.

Imran Khan also directed Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Minister Public Health Shah Farman to ensure early supply of clean drinking water to the area.

The PTI chief condemned the Parachinar blast. He said that everyone in the country was on the same page against terrorism and the menace would soon be eliminated.

Upon the arrival of the PTI chief in the Islamia College, disorder was also witnessed. The charged PTI supporters broke the security wall around the venue, prompting the police to baton charge the workers. Some media persons also came under the baton charge. The police misbehaved and thrashed a reporter from daily Jang in the presence of police high-ups.
