Hingis aims for Olympic spot

Martina Hingis has rejoined Switzerland’s Fed Cup team after a 17-year absence in a bid to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in Brazil.

The five-time Grand Slam winner, who won the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open earlier this year with India’s Leander Paes, has been selected for the Switzerland squad for the World Group play-off against Poland on 18-19 April.

Hingis, 34, must play in the women’s team competition if she wants to compete in Rio de Janeiro.

The former world number one has not played Fed Cup since the 1998 final in Geneva, which Switzerland lost to Spain._82046188_andy_murray222_getty
