ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) approached Sarfaraz Merchant, a close friend of MQM leader Muhammad Anwar and a suspect in money laundering case, to probe allegations of MQM’s ties with Indian intelligence agency RAW.
FIA Director Inam Ghani reportedly telephoned Merchant to ask him to visit Pakistan. Merchant confirmed that he was contacted by Pakistani authorities but said he would take any decision till Monday after consultation with his lawyers.
On the other hand, Sindh FIA Director Shahid Hayat has contacted former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal, seeking his cooperation in the inquiry.
Sources said investigators of the FIA are expected to meet with Kamal within the next 24 hours.
