ECP rejects PAT petition for ineligibility of Nawaz Sharif as PM

Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek seeking ineligibility of Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister after Model Town case.

PAT held the stance that after Model Town massacre, Nawaz Sharif has no moral grounds to be the Prime Minister hence he should be removed from his position. While the ECP said that until the case is under criminal court, no action can be taken.

In 2014, PAT and Punjab Police had a violent clash outside Model Town office, which resulted in 16 deaths and injuries to several persons.
