The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a new code of conduct for presiding and assistant presiding officers. “The officers will be convicted for two years and will be fined for Rs50, 000,” ECP stated.
These punishments are applicable in case of rigging allegations or complaints over irregularities issued by the political parties. “The code of conduct is believed to be issued after constant demand from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after general election 2013,” media stated.
This step by ECP is considered to be significant before the upcoming Local Body Elections in Punjab and Sindh.
