Darren Sammy not given Pakistan’s honorary citizenship

PESHAWAR: The KP Govt denied granting of honorary citizenship to West Indies Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy.

Earlier, a Twitter account being run in the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak claimed that Sammy was granted Pakistani citizenship.

The owner of Pakistan Super League’s Peshawar Zalmi team, Javed Afridi, tweeted and requested the Government of Pakistan to grant citizenship to Darren Sammy for his love for this nation.

Reacting to the development, Darren Sammy posted a tweet in Pashtu language, thanking Chief Minister Khattak for the “honor”.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani confirmed that it was a fake Twitter account.

He said that only federal government can offer honorary citizenship to any foreigner.
