LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief operation officer, Subhan Ahmed has confirmed that Azhar Ali will remain Pakistan’s ODI captain for the series against West Indies.Pakistan will play a three match ODI series against West Indies in UAE starting September 30. Two other matches will be played on October 2 and 5.
There was speculation that Azhar Ali might resign or be asked to step down following Pakistan’s humiliating ODI series defeat against England. Sources later revealed that Azhar Ali had informed the PCB about his decision to not resign from the post.
Azhar took over the captaincy after 2015 World Cup and has led the side in eight series. During his captaincy Pakistan have only beaten Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Ireland (in a one-off match) in this time and are currently ranked ninth in ODIs with 86 points, their lowest ever tally since the ranking system was introduced in 2001.
