Article 6 should be abolished, says Rabbani

Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said that Article 6 of the Constitution had failed to protect the constitution, the parliament and democracy; therefore, the government and the parliament should abolish it.He was talking to media persons in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh after offering prayers at the graves of the Bhuttos before commemoration of the 37th death anniversary of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Rabbani said that a safe exit to General Pervez Musharraf, who was on trial in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, proved that Article 4 was not complied with in letter and spirit that guaranteed equal rights to all citizens. The Senate chairman said that judicial murder reference of Bhutto had been pending trial in the Supreme Court for the last two and a half years, but it was not being heard. He said the case should be heard. He said that Bhutto could not get justice in his life, but the record should be historically correct. He said that importance of Article 6 had decreased, but it had proved that people’s power was supreme. He said that now the poor masses and the educated people of the middle class would save the country, the constitution, the parliament and democracy. He said that Bhutto had said while launching his party at the residence of Dr Mubashir Hassan that power lied with the poor people. He said that April 4 was the day of the poor people to shed tears because their hopes were murdered on that day. He said that Pakistan had been saying for long that RAW was interfering in its affairs and now it had been proven after the arrest of an Indian intelligence official in Balochistan.
