Ajmal inspired Islamabad United clinch thriller over Karachi

DUBAI – Islamabad desperately needed a win as they had lost previous two matches. Islamabad United posted a low total of 133 for Karachi Kings.
Karachi Kings were on 3/1 after 3 overs at this point skipper Shoaib Malik took a smart move by sending Imad Wasim up the order which proved to be fruitful with blistering 29 runs off 17 balls, however when he was out, the match turned in favor of Islamabad again.
Karachi were on 52/4 after 10 overs and they need 81 runs in last 60 balls. But brilliant spell of bowling by Ruman Raees and Saeed Ajmal helped Islamabad to win the match on last ball of the over.
Wickets continued to fall for the Karachi side but a 28-run stand between Ravi Bopara and Usama Mir meant they were still in with a shout going into the last over.
Needing 16 to win, Mir was run-out off a wide in the first ball and the incoming Mohammad Amir hit a four off the first ball to make it 11 off 5 balls.
But the experienced Watson bowled two superb dot balls to mean that by the time Bopara took strike, Karachi needed 10 off two balls.
A straight six over Watson left Karachi needing four off the last ball but the Australian all-rounder held his nerve and fired in a perfect yorker in the blockhole, which the England man could only edge for a single to leave the pre-tournament favourites two runs short.
Saeed Ajmal received the man of the match award for his spell which resulted in three wickets. Sami, Russell and Raees got one wicket apiece. Saeed Ajmal said: “I have been working hard for the past year, trying to bring variety in into my bowling. I am hoping to perform well in PSL in order to get selected for the national squad in upcoming World T20.”
Karachi Kings captain Shoaib Malik said: “I am disappointed that we were unable to chase a relatively small target but I am hopeful for a better performance in our next match.”
Islamabad United skipper Shane Watson was delighted: “It feels good to get off the mark in the tournament and we hope to continue performing in a similar manner in our subsequent matches.
