Karachi:Weighing 490kgs, Abdul Jabbar, was placed on a ventilator by his medical team due to difficulty in breathing which had disturbed the normal functioning of his vital organs, said Dr Javaid Jamali, spokesman for Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
The 38-year-old resident of Kamber Shahdadkot was admitted to JPMC a week ago for medical troubles caused due to his excessive weight.
Jinnah Hospital Karachi’s executive director, Prof Dr Aneesuddin Bhatti said Jabbar had morbid obesity, was bedridden and had now started getting short of breath; his legs were also said to have developed pressure ulcers.
Prof Bhatti stated that these issues had been a great cause of concern in Jabbar’s life. His condition was said to be deteriorating since Sunday night after which he was placed on the ventilator. Jabbar’s medical team had decided to postpone his bariatric surgery until his vital organs and breathing normalised.
