34 killed in Baghdad suicide bombing

Baghdad: At least 34 people killed in suicide bomb attack in Baghdad on Saturday. The explosion was claimed by Islamic State group which was the deadliest attack in the Iraqi capital in last three months.

According to police officials, the suicide bomb exploded in a funeral tent where people were gathered in the Shia-majority Shaab area of north Baghdad. At least 36 people were injured in the explosion.

This explosion was the latest of the IS-claimed attacks on Iraq’s Shiite Muslim majority. Over 60 people were dead in less than 3 weeks

In an online statement, IS claimed the attack which was carried out by a suicide bomber who detonated himself.

According to an eye-witness, the bomber entered the funeral tent and detonated him when lunch was being served. The witness said, “I saw with my eyes 20 martyrs on the ground.”

IS considers Shiites to be infidel and carries out suicide bombings and other attacks against them in Iraq.

The bombings have continued even after the announcement of improvising the security measures in the capital.
