PESHAWAR: At least 16 people were killed and 30 others sustained injuries when a bomb exploded on a bus carrying government officials in Peshawar on Wednesday, officials said.
The attack took place on Peshawar’s Sunehri Masjid road after the bus picked up government employees from areas surrounding Peshawar and was transporting them in the city.
“The blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside the bus,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantonment Kashif Zulfiqar said.
“There were 40-50 people on the bus.”
According to initial reports, the blast was in a bus carrying employees of Civil Secretariat, government officials coming from Mardan.
“The top part of the bus has blown off and is being cut to pull out the injured,” an eye witness told.
Rescue officials and security teams have reached the scene.
