ISLAMABAD - Federal Minster for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday said that all political parties are agreed on the Karachi operation but the decision regarding Rangers deployment has not yet been taken.
Talking to newsmen here in Islamabad, he said that Rangers’ powers would be decided under the law and constitution. He said that all institutions were working in their constitutional ambit. He said federal government was supporting provincial governments according to law.
Later, addressing a seminar on “Impact of Narcotics on Economy,” he said collective efforts were required to eliminate drug trafficking from Pakistan. He said that elimination of terrorism and restoration of peace in Karachi was the prime responsibility of the government.
He reiterated the commitment of Pakistan to stand along the international community in the fight against drugs. He said spreading of drugs was nuisance in the society.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Media Monitoring and Tracking Centre, the information minister said that it was need of the hour to improve the governance system. He said that it would play a vital role in implementation of media code of conduct.
He said that the centre would help to keep liaison between the government and the media. The center was equipped with modern gadgets to monitor 80 channels.
